While this might not be a huge revelation to some… others might find this advice to be very useful; a good starting point for those who are struggling to get those first new visitors to their site.

When I launched WPFuss on July 5th, I did it with no intentions of marketing the site right away since it’s still on the works (as you may already have noticed). While working on the site last Thursday, I happened to find a great blog called Cats Who Blog which offers great blogging tips. I decided to join their new forum and participate in a few of the threads that interested me the most.

Getting involved in this one forum started increasing my website stats significantly (from 0 – 80 visitors on the day after I joined) and best of all it’s still bringing in quality targeted traffic to the site. I know 80 visitors in a day is nothing to brag about but keep in mind that my intentions weren’t necessarily to market in their forum in the first place.

Not all the visitors came directly from Cats Who Blog but I can assure you that they’re indirectly responsible for all the traffic I’ve been getting. Now my articles are starting to get re-twitted, I got my first few RSS subscribers and Twitter followers, and I even made a few blogroll buddies that where willing to exchange links with me. Considering the efforts and amount of money invested I think I’m off to a very good start.

I’m not expecting that all days will be the same or that participating in a forum alone will sustain those 80 visitors, but I’m really looking forward to getting involved in other WordPress related websites once I get done with the site.

Give it a try! Getting involved might be that spark your blog needs to take off. Go meet and learn from new friends that share your same interests while getting some free targeted traffic. If you’re not doing this you might be missing out on lots of good exposure and potential new visitors.
